1S Whoop Charger: WhoopStor V3 First, WooPower W63 When You Outgrow It

Short version: buy a WhoopStor V3 with your first whoop. It charges six 1S packs at once, does LiHV, and has a storage mode, which is most of what a whoop pilot ever needs from a charger. The WooPower W63 is the step up when you want more control per port and more power behind it — not a better first buy, a different one.

Whichever you pick, the thing that actually damages packs is the power supply you plug it into. That section is short and it is the one to read twice.

WhoopStor V3: the default

Six ports, BT2.0 and PH2.0, LiPo or LiHV selectable, adjustable charge current, storage mode. It runs off a USB-C supply, fits in a jacket pocket, and every whoop pilot at the gym has one. It is the charger behind every pack on the bench page — the Air65 numbers were flown on packs it charged to 4.35 V.

The one thing to understand before you buy: the settings are shared across all six ports. Pick LiHV and 1 A and every pack on the board gets LiHV at 1 A. That is fine when your packs match — six LAVA 300s, say — and a trap when they do not. A 300 mAh pack at 1 A is 3.3C, brisk but survivable; put a 200 mAh pack in the same row and it is getting 5C. Charge like packs together, or turn the current down to suit the smallest one.

Storage mode matters more than it sounds. Whoop packs left at 4.35 V for a week puff. Six packs back to storage voltage in one press, walk away, is the feature that keeps a set of packs alive for a season.

WooPower W63: more control, more power, more to get wrong

The W63 is the flexible option: independent per-port settings, so a 200 and a 450 can sit side by side on their own current, and a discharge function that takes packs down rather than just holding them. It also wants a proper supply behind it to deliver on that.

That flexibility is exactly why it is not the first buy. Every port is a decision, and a new pilot with one type of pack does not need six decisions. Get it when you are running mixed capacities, or when you have started caring about internal resistance and cycle counts and want to bring packs down before storage on your own terms.

On the discharge side: treat any charger's discharge rating as a bench figure, not a promise. Small chargers dump discharge energy as heat through a small resistor; they are slow at it and warm while doing it. Fine for storage, not a substitute for flying a pack down.

The power supply is the part that cooks packs

A 1S charger pushing six packs at 1 A is drawing well over 30 W from its input. A dumb 5 V phone brick or a laptop USB port cannot supply that. What you get is not a slower charge — it is a charger that browns out, resets mid-cycle, or reports full on packs that are not, and packs that sag on the first punch because they never actually took the charge. Symptoms people blame on the packs.

Settings for the starter pack

For the first whoop stack — six LAVA 300 mAh 1S HV on an Air65 — the WhoopStor settings are: LiHV, 1 A, and storage mode after any session where the packs will not be flown again within a day or two. Full charge lands at 4.35 V; do not use LiPo mode on an HV pack and wonder why it only reaches 4.20 V and flies short.
