WhoopStor V3 vs BETAFPV HexaCharger — Keep the Default or Go USB-C Kit?
Short version: For a first 1S whoop fleet, QuadMath still defaults to WhoopStor V3. HexaCharger (or HexaCharger Pro) is a fine USB-C desk fork when you already live on capable PD and do not need XT60 or field power — not a reason to overturn the default. Need per-port control or the flexible/power path? That comparison lives on WhoopStor vs W63; this page only answers the Hexa cart question.
This guide covers 65–85mm whoops. Chargers are name-only until Gear has
/go/ cards. Specs below are manufacturer / Oscar Liang claims — not QuadMath
amp benches.
What both do well
Six ports, PH2.0 and BT2.0 (one connector per channel), LiPo 4.20 V / LiHV 4.35 V, storage mode, and a color screen. Both beat a dumb USB brick. Both also share the same trap: current and target voltage are shared across ports — independent channels, not independent settings.
The real fork: power input and current steps
| WhoopStor V3 | HexaCharger / Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Power in | USB-C PD, XT60, DC 5.5×2.1 | USB-C only |
| Charge current | 0.3–1.3 A, 0.1 A steps | 0.5 A min, 0.5 A steps (Oscar); Pro up to 3 A all ports |
| Storage | 3.80 / 3.85 V | 3.85 V |
| PD class | ~40 W for full capability; not plain 5 V USB | Non-Pro ≥30 W; Pro ≥100 W (BETAFPV) |
WhoopStor still wins when you might charge from a field LiPo or a barrel brick. Hexa wins when the desk already has a real PD supply and you will never miss XT60. On ~300 mAh packs, WhoopStor can dial a true ~0.3 A (about 1C); Hexa’s 0.5 A floor is the gentlest step Oscar documents — workable, just not as fine.
Keep WhoopStor V3 if…
You are buying the first multi-pack charger for a matched 65mm fleet, want XT60/DC later, prefer 0.1 A steps for gentle currents, or simply want to stay on QuadMath’s beginner path. That is the locked default here.
HexaCharger is fine if…
Your cart already pairs a Hexa with a USB-C whoop desk life, you own a capable PD brick, you do not need field XT60, and shared settings plus 0.5 A steps are acceptable. Storage at 3.85 V is real — this is still a smart multi-port charger.
Pro vs non-Pro: Pro’s ≥100 W PD and up-to-3 A-all-ports headroom is overkill for many 65mm ~300 mAh packs. Non-Pro with ≥30 W PD is enough for gentle whoop currents for most buyers. Do not upsell Pro by default.
Caveats worth one pass
Buy a real PD adapter (Hexa packages usually do not include one). Plain phone 5 V USB will not unlock either charger’s full capability. Match LiPo vs LiHV to the pack label; do not slam 3 A into small packs. Soft tip from Oscar’s Hexa review: reverse-insert can fry a port, and he observed no reverse-polarity protection — check PH2.0/BT2.0 orientation and do not force plugs. Charge attended on a non-flammable surface.
